Denchu Art Museum opened as Denchu-Kan in 1990 to preserve and exhibit the works of HIRAKUSHi Denchu (a great master of modern sculpture),to praise his achievement and to contribute to cultural amenities.
In 1973 Denchu-kan was registered according to regulations and changed its name to Denchu Art Museum.
In 1983 Denchu Art Museum opened a new building in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the municipal system.
The collections of the museum are mainly the works which Denchu gave to elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools in the city of Ibara, and works which were in the Denchu-kan when it opened during his lifetime.
There are also posthumous works and keepsakes which the bereaved family gave after his death and works from artists of the Nippon-bijyustu-in(Japan Art Institute)who were connected which Denchu and won the HIRAKUSHI Denchu award.
On the third floor, the atelier in which Denchu made many masterpieces at Uenosakuragi-cho in Tokyo is recreated reminding us of artistic life in those days.
